A Message to Students

Welcome to Foundations for College Writing. I'm glad you're here, and I want to take just a minute to tell you where this course comes from and why I think it matters.

My name is Jason Frieling, and I serve as an instructional designer at Cedarville University. Before that, I spent 24 years teaching English in Michigan. I taught middle school, high school, honors English, and AP Language and Composition, and I also spent several years helping teachers grow in their own classroom work.

Over time, I kept seeing the same thing: students often have more ability than they realize. Sometimes they just need the right kind of practice, guidance, and encouragement to bring that ability out. That's a big part of what this course is for. It's meant to give you space to practice, learn, and grow into a stronger, more confident writer.

This course isn't the only way to get ready for college writing, but it is a thoughtful and proven one. It combines solid instruction with useful tools so you can build real skill and make real progress. The goal isn't just to help you finish assignments. It's to help you become a clearer, stronger writer for college and beyond.

College already comes with plenty of challenges. My hope is that this course helps make writing one area where you feel ready. And if you ever have questions along the way, don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad you're here, and I'm cheering you on.
